Overview

In dairy cattle production, the urea nitrogen commonly referred to is milk urea nitrogen (MUN). MUN primarily originates from rumen-degradable protein. Measuring MUN holds significant importance for maintaining the energy-nitrogen balance in dairy cows, unleashing their production potential, maximizing the efficient utilization of dietary protein, and reducing costs. This kit utilizes the hydrolysis of urea by urease to produce ammonium ions and carbon dioxide. In an alkaline medium, the ammonium ions react with a phenol chromogenic agent to form a blue-colored substance, the amount of which is proportional to the urea content. By detecting the concentration of this colored substance at 625 nm, the milk urea nitrogen (MUN) content is determined.
