Which Building Blocks are more popular in medicinal chemistry?
Firstly, amines (especially secondary amines), acids, boronic acids, and boronic esters ranked highest. Next, the commonly used building blocks are aryl halides, alkyl or benzyl halides, aldehydes, alcohols, and anilines. There are also sulfonyl halides, ketones, and isocyanates. Isocyanates and sulfonyl halides are very widely used in medicinal chemistry, but have a low priority due to instability in long-term storage. In addition, hydrazine and lactam building blocks are also prioritized.
