N-Acetyl-DL-serine is a hydrophobic amino acid synthesized in vivo and can bind to succinates, phosphates, or acetate in free form. N-Acetyl-DL-serine exhibits antibacterial activity against Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus. N-Acetyl-DL-serine is also used for solid surface immobilization of DNA fragments and can be used for protein synthesis and optical detection of DNA strands.
