Overview
The ammonium ion (NH₄⁺) content is one of the important indicators for evaluating whether water quality is contaminated. In water, ammonium ions exist in the form of free ammonia (NH₃) or ammonium salts (NH₄⁺), and their ratio mainly depends on the pH value of the water sample. This kit employs the indophenol blue colorimetric method for the determination of ammonium ion content: in a strongly alkaline medium, ammonium ions are converted to the ammonium salt form, which reacts with phenol and sodium hypochlorite to generate a stable water-soluble indophenol blue dye. This product exhibits a characteristic absorption peak at 625 nm. By measuring the absorbance at this wavelength, which is proportional to the ammonium ion content, and combining with a standard curve, the ammonium ion concentration in the sample can be precisely quantified.
