Overview

Tris is a weak base with the molecular formula C₄H₁₁NO₃ and a relative molecular weight of 121.14. Its pKa is 8.1 at 25 ℃, and the effective buffering range of Tris buffer is pH 7.0–9.2. Maleic acid, also known as cis-butenedioic acid, is a dicarboxylic acid with the molecular formula C₄H₄O₄, a molecular weight of 116.07 and a CAS number of 110-16-7. Tris combined with maleic acid is used as a buffer for immunohistochemistry.

Tris-Maleate Buffer (0.1 mol/L, pH 6.5) is prepared from 0.1 M Tris, 0.1 M maleic acid, deionized water and other components, and is commonly used in immunohistochemistry experiments.
