L-cystathionine has been used in ultra performance liquid chromatography to verify the correlation between cystathionine and its abundance and vertebrate metamorphosis. It has also been used as an inhibitor of the sinusoidal GSH (glutathione) carrier to show that the imbalance of thiol redox state is related to the regulation of autophagy in cancer cells.
