Overview

Pyruvic acid (PA), also known as 2-oxopropanoic acid, is a key intermediate in fundamental metabolic processes throughout living organisms. It serves as a crucial link in the interconversion of carbohydrates, fats, and amino acids via acetyl-CoA and the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle. As the end product of anaerobic glycolysis, pyruvate is often studied alongside lactate in research, with their ratio used to assess the degree of circulatory failure. Pyruvate detection can be performed using methods such as the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) catalytic assay or the dinitrophenylhydrazine colorimetric method. The detection principle of this kit is based on the reaction of pyruvic acid with dinitrophenylhydrazine under acidic conditions to form a pyruvate-dinitrophenylhydrazone complex. This complex develops a brownish-red color upon oxidation. The absorbance is measured at 520 nm using spectrophotometry, and the PA concentration is calculated by comparison with a standard curve. This kit is suitable for detecting endogenous pyruvate levels in samples such as plants, cells or tissues, and serum, with particular applicability for plant samples. This product is intended for research use only and is not suitable for clinical diagnosis or other purposes.
