Experiments on the microscopic identification of roots and rhizomes of traditional Chinese medicine

Summary

The root and rhizome herbal medicine microscopic identification test can be used for (1) the determination of the plant when collecting the drug, and (2) the plant's nutrients are mostly stored in the root or rhizome, and the extracted drug is of high yield and good quality.

Operation method

Experiments on the microscopic identification of roots and rhizomes of traditional Chinese medicine

Principle

Herbal Awareness aims to collect national varieties of Chinese herbs. Each medicine is written according to name, source, morphology, habitat, cultivation, harvesting, chemistry, pharmacology, taste and function, main treatment and usage, and accompanying preparations, etc., and is accompanied by colorful diagrams. It is rich in content, with more accurate and reliable information, which can be combined with modern medical science knowledge to a certain extent, and can be used as a reference for scientific research and clinics.

I. Chuanbei: Fritillaria cirrhosa D. Don, F. unibracteata Hsiao et K. C. Hsia, Liliaceae,

F. unibracteata Hsiao et K. C. Hsia, F. przewalskii Maxim. or the dried bulb of F. delavayi Franch.

The powder is off-white. The common feature of the four sources is that the starch grains are very numerous, which is the main body of the powder and the main point of identification.

1. starch grains (starch): very many, broadly ovate, oblong or irregularly shaped, some edges are uneven or slightly branched, 5~64μm in diameter, umbilical point short suture, dotted, zigzag or horseshoe-shaped, the layer pattern is vaguely visible.

2. epidermis cell: oblong-like, with microwave-like curved peripheral walls.

3. stomata: occasional indefinite stomata, round or oblate.

4. calcium oxalate square crystal (solitary crystal): containing fewer tiny.

5. vessel: threaded.

Second, zhebei: for the lily plant zhebei mother Fritillaria thunbergii Miq. of the dry bulb.

Powder yellowish white. Starch grain is very much, for the main body of the powder, but also for the identification of points.

1. Starch grain: very much, single grain ovate, broadly ovate or ellipsoid, 6~56μm in diameter, umbilical dotted, cracked, herringbone or horseshoe-shaped, located in the smaller end, the laminae are mostly obvious; Occasionally, semi-complex grain and complex grain, complex grain consists of 2 grains.

2. Epidermal cells: polygonal or rectangular, with pericyclic wall thickening.

3. Stomata: sometimes visible, 4~5 parvocells.

4. Calcium oxalate crystals: fine, mostly granular, some are pike-shaped, square or rod-shaped.

5. Duct: threaded.

Caveat

Highly toxic drugs should be stored separately to prevent accidents. The storage room for drugs must be kept clean and dry and protected from insects and rodents; the drugs must be turned over and exposed to the sun diligently, and certain drugs that are susceptible to insect infestation or to moisture and oil, such as Qiangwuqiangwu, Duhu, Gansui, Angelica, etc., must be inspected frequently in order to prevent moldy decay and deterioration.

Common Problems

The harvesting season, time, method and storage of Chinese herbal medicines have a close relationship with the quality of Chinese herbal medicines, which is an important link to ensure the quality of medicines. Therefore, according to the different medicinal parts (such as plant roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, seeds or grass have a certain period of growth and maturity, and animals also have a certain period of capture and processing), the harvesting of medicines should be carried out in a planned way for the harvesting and storage, so as to get higher yield and better quality of medicines to ensure the supply of medicines and therapeutic efficacy.
