The effect of Da Cheng Qi Tang on the motility of the large intestine in rats
·Reviewed·Published ·Updated ·8 min read
Summary
The strength of colonic motility affects the rate of distal advancement of intestinal contents. Using black charcoal powder as an indicator, we can directly observe the advancement distance of the contents of the large intestine in animals after execution, thus reflecting the effect of the drug on the motor function of the large intestine. The direct effect of Dachengqi Tang on colonic motility could be observed by instilling Dachengqi Tang into the colon from the end of the ileum. The indirect (post-absorptive) effect of Da Cheng Qi Tang on colonic motility can be observed when Da Cheng Qi Tang is given by gavage and the ileum is ligated.
