Overview
Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase (ACC) catalyzes the carboxylation of acetyl-CoA to produce malonyl-CoA within living organisms. It is a key enzyme in the synthesis of fatty acids and many secondary metabolites. The activity of ACC largely determines the rate of fatty acid synthesis and the level of oil content.
Assay Principle: ACC catalyzes the formation of malonyl-CoA, ADP, and inorganic phosphate from acetyl-CoA, NaHCO₃, and ATP. The activity of ACC is determined by measuring the increase in inorganic phosphate using the ammonium molybdate colorimetric method.
