Comparative experiments on the surface anesthetic effects of local anesthetics

Summary

Compare and contrast the surface anesthetic effects of procaine, bupivacaine, and lidocaine.

Operation method

local anesthetic

Principle

Topical drops of local anesthetics may affect the corneal reflex. Procaine and bupivacaine belong to the ester class of local anesthetics, while lidocaine belongs to the amide class of local anesthetics, and the three drugs have different characteristics such as lipid solubility, duration of action and penetration ability. The properties of the three drugs, such as time of action and penetration ability, are quite different, and the effects of topical eye drops on the corneal reflex of rabbits are compared with the differences in their characteristics.

Materials and Instruments

Rabbit
Procaine hydrochloride; bupivacaine hydrochloride; lidocaine hydrochloride
Coarse scissors; rabbit immobilizer; dropper 1

Move

1. Take 3 healthy rabbits and mark them, put them in a rabbit fixation box, and cut off the eyelashes of both eyes. A corneal stimulator was used to gently touch the cornea of both eyes with equal force. Middle. Bottom. Left. The normal corneal reflex was observed and recorded. Stimulation of all five points elicited a blinking response that was scored as a 5 on a scale.

2. Use the thumb and forefinger to pull the lower eyelid of the rabbit into a cup shape, and use the middle finger to press the nasolacrimal duct to prevent the medicine from flowing into the nasolacrimal duct, and administer the medicine according to the order of the table below, with two drops in each eye; gently rub the lower eyelid to make the medicine in full contact with the cornea, and then allow it to overflow for 1 min.

3. Examine the corneal reflex of rabbits at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 min after the administration of the drug in the same way as above, and compare the effects of the three local anesthetics to see if there are any differences and similarities in their characteristics.

4. Record the scores of the corneal responses of rabbits at different time points and fill in the following table.

3 the Left (politics) bupivacaine (loanword)
right lidocaine (loanword)

Caveat

1. The eyelids should not be touched during the corneal reflex test.

2. The amount of drug dropped should be accurate, and the residence time of the drug in the conjunctival sac of the rabbit eye should be consistent.

3. The results of the experiments in the whole room should be synthesized and analyzed in a uniform manner.

Common Problems

1. What are the characteristics of the local anesthetic effects of procaine, bupivacaine, and lidocaine, and are there any differences?

2. According to the characteristics of the action of procaine . What are the characteristics of local anesthesia of procaine, bupivacaine and lidocaine, and what are the clinical uses of each?
