Purification of antibodies from immune sera

Summary

Purified antibodies are often used for direct detection of antigens. In this case the antibody is labeled with an easily identifiable marker for binding and detecting the antigen under study. In the indirect method of antigen detection, the primary antibody is not labeled, but is detected with a labeled secondary antibody (an anti-immunoglobulin antibody). In general, indirect methods are recommended.
