Morphological observation experiment of Toxoplasma gondii

Summary

This experiment is from the official website of Parasitology, School of Medicine, Shandong University.

Operation method

Morphological observation experiment of Toxoplasma gondii

Principle

The cat is the final host, and in the epithelial cells of the cat's small intestine, there is a proliferative stage of cleavage and a sexual reproductive stage. Cysts are excreted from cat feces, and mature cysts are the infectious stage, forming trophozoites and capsules in tissues after being ingested by intermediate hosts such as humans, pigs, sheep and rats. Encystment is the main form of transmission between intermediate hosts. Humans are infected by ingesting undercooked meat or food contaminated with cysticerci.

Move

Toxoplasma gondii trophozoites (slide-stained specimen): this is a smear of the liver or abdominal exudate of mice with toxoplasmosis, stained with Kiehl's and Riehl's stains; observed under an oil microscope: the trophozoites are banana-shaped or half-moon shaped, with one end pointed, one end obtuse and rounded, one side flat and one side curved, 4-7??m in length, and the widest point is 2-4??m. The nucleus of the cells is located in the center of the body and is red in color. The cytoplasm is blue.

1. Typical toxoplasma trophozoites

2. cysticercus: ovoid, with a double cystic wall, smooth. Slightly greenish color. Mature conidia contain two sporangia, each containing four long, slightly curved ascospores.
