Overview

Alcohol is a general term for beverages containing ethanol, which serves as the primary component and a key indicator of quality. Ethanol can be used in the production of acetic acid, beverages, fragrances, dyes, fuels, and more. In medical settings, ethanol at a volume fraction of 70%–75% is commonly used as a disinfectant. It finds wide applications in the chemical industry, healthcare, food industry, agricultural production, and other fields. This assay kit is suitable for detecting ethanol in biological samples such as animal and plant tissues, bacteria, cells, serum, or plasma. In the kit, ethanol is oxidatively dehydrogenated to acetaldehyde under the catalysis of ethanol dehydrogenase, while NAD⁺ is simultaneously reduced to NADH. The generated NADH, in the presence of 1-mPMS, causes WST-8 to develop an orange-yellow color. The ethanol content can be determined by measuring the change in absorbance at 450 nm.
