Summary
Irbesartan is an AT1 receptor blocker and is used clinically in the treatment of hypertension. It is expected to be a first-line anti-hypertensive drug because of its precise efficacy and virtually no adverse effects at therapeutic doses (commonly used 50-300 mg/d, tolerated >900 mg/d). Pharmacokinetic studies have shown that Irbesartan capsules are orally absorbed relatively quickly (Tmax 1.5-2 h), with an absolute bioavailability of about 60%-80% and a half-life t1/2 of about 11-16 h. The drug has been shown to be effective in the treatment of hypertension.
