Vitamin C, also known as L-ascorbic acid, is an essential nutrient for higher primates and a few other organisms. In living organisms, vitamin C acts as an antioxidant. It is an acidic hexose derivative, specifically an enol-form hexonic acid lactone, which helps protect the body from threats posed by free radicals, and also functions as a coenzyme. It is widely available from various fresh fruits and vegetables. Vitamin C exists in two isomeric forms, L-type and D-type, with only the L-type exhibiting physiological activity. Both the reduced and oxidized forms are biologically active. The detection principle of this kit is based on the conjugated double-bond structure in the vitamin C molecule, which shows a maximum absorption peak at 243 nm in acidic solutions. Under neutral or alkaline conditions, the maximum absorption peak shifts to 265 nm. By using copper ions to eliminate background interference, the vitamin C content in samples can be directly measured with a microplate reader. This kit is primarily used for the detection of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) in plant tissues. This product is intended for research use only and is not suitable for clinical diagnosis or other purposes.
