NADPH is a coenzyme called reduced coenzyme II, the scientific name of reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate, once known as pyridine triphosphate nucleotide, triphosphopyridine nucleotide, using the abbreviation TPN, also written as [H], also known as reduced hydrogen. It is important in many chemical reactions in living organisms as a hydrogen transporter. It is a phosphorylated derivative of the 2'-position of the ribose ring system attached to adenine in nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+), and is involved in a variety of anabolic reactions such as the synthesis of lipids, fatty acids, and nucleotides. These reactions require NADPH as a reducing agent, a negative hydrogen donor, and NADPH is the reduced form of NADP+.
