Experiments on the fluorescence phenomenon of chlorophyll
Experiments on the fluorescence phenomenon of chlorophyll
Matter has different energy states, some electrons in the matter absorbed the energy of light quanta, the matter from the original stable state of the energy level jump to a higher energy level. This stable state is called the ground state; the phenomenon of electrons jumping from the ground state to a higher energy level is called excitation; the electrons in the excited state are called excited electrons. Chloroplast pigment molecules absorb light quanta, so that the electrons within the molecule jump to an excited state, due to the excitation energy is not accepted by the appropriate acceptor, the excited electrons will quickly return to the original energy level, the release of energy in addition to a part of the conversion to heat and loss, usually releases longer wavelengths than the original absorption of light fluorescence or phosphorescence

Principle
Matter has different energy states, some electrons in the matter absorbed the energy of light quanta, the matter from the original stable state of the energy level jump to a higher energy level. This stable state is called the ground state; the phenomenon of electrons jumping from the ground state to a higher energy level is called excitation; the electrons in the excited state are called excited electrons. Chloroplast pigment molecules absorb light quanta, so that the electrons within the molecule jump to an excited state, due to the excitation energy is not accepted by the appropriate acceptor, the excited electrons will quickly return to the original energy level, the release of energy, in addition to some of the energy is converted to heat and loss, usually released than the original wavelength of the absorbed light longer than the wavelength of the fluorescent or phosphorescent light, as shown in the following figure: so we see the reflected light (fluorescent) for the This phenomenon is called fluorescence. When light is transmitted through a chloroplast pigment solution, red light is absorbed by the pigment, leaving the complementary color green light, so the transmitted light is green.

Chloroplast pigment extract, light source (sunlight or light), several test tubes
Experimental steps
Take a small amount of chloroplast pigment extract, if it is too thick, add a small amount of 95% alcohol for dilution, observation; transmitted light is green, reflected light is dark red, indicating that chlorophyll with fluorescence phenomenon.
