Biochemical and Physiological Mechanisms

Receptor for the CX3C chemokine fractalkine and mediates both its adhesive and migratory functions. Acts as coreceptor with CD4 for HIV-1 virus envelope protein (in vitro). Isoform 2 and isoform 3 seem to be more potent HIV-1 coreceptors than isoform 1.

Two-color flow cytometric analysis of CX3CR1 expression on mouse splenocytes. C57BL/6 mouse splenocytes were stained with CD11b Rat mAb (APC) (Ab178881) and either Mouse IgG Isotype Control Antibody (Biotin) (Ab180306; Left panel) or Recombinant CX3CR1 Antibody (Ab211674; Right panel) at 5.0 μg/mL. Two-color flow cytometric dot plots showing the correlated expression of CD11b versus CX3CR1 (or Isotype control staining) were derived from gated events with the forward and side light-scatter characteristics of viable mononuclear cells.
