2.6.1.42 Branched-chain-amino-acid transaminase

Branched-chain-amino-acid transaminase (BCAT) is an enzyme that catalyzes the reversible transfer of an amino group from a branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) to alpha-ketoglutarate, producing glutamate and a branched-chain alpha-keto acid. BCATs are involved in the metabolism of BCAAs, which are essential amino acids that cannot be synthesized by the human body and must be obtained from the diet.
