3.4.21.46 Complement factor D
Complement factor D is a serine protease that is part of the alternative pathway of the complement system, which is an important part of the immune system. Factor D cleaves factor B to form the active component of the alternative pathway, C3bBb, which can then cleave C3 to form C3b. C3b is an opsonin that promotes phagocytosis of pathogens by immune cells.
